THE DREM AND OTHER STORIES

   I read "THE DREAM AND OTHER STORIES." As the title, this book consists of short stories.
 
   I think that a story  "The Blind Man" is most interesting. I will tell you the story. Isabel and her husband, Maurice, were waiting for  their friend Bertie. Maurice had been blinded in the wer in France and he had been home for a year because he was badly scarred and totally blind. He became despairing. His wife tried to give her hussband some further connection with the outside world so she invited their old friend. Bertie is kind, but also weak. He became a successful lawyer, a rich man and a great social success but he was ashemed of himself because he couldn't marry.
   The three of them enjoyed dinner together. Afterwards, Maurice left the house and Bertie went out to check on him. Then, the blind man asked Bertie fo permission to touch him. Maurice expllained Bertie's skull, face, and arm. He then asksed Bertie to touch his eyes and scar. The experience is a revelation for both men. Maurice dunderstood the splendor of friendship while Bertie realized how much he feard intimacy.

   At first, I felt the story is a little bit strange but after read the story few times, I realized that people feel differenrly even do same things.

   If you can't concentrate on reading a long story, this book would be good for you!

Ireland by Tim Vicary

    This week I read "Ireland."  As the title this book is written about Ireland' s history, culture and so on.    This book consists of 12 chapters.  I think this book mainly tells about Ireland's history. Chapter1and 2 are about nature of Ireland. "Ireland is an island like a plate"(p.2)    I think this is a good example. I thought that's like a shape of Kumamoto. Kumamoto is also surrounded by mountains so I could imagine easily.   Chapter3 tells about Celtic people. "The  Celts are . . . tall and strong."(p.5)    When I was a junior high school student, my English teacher was a Irish man. Now the reason why he is tall is that he got Celtic people's gene. I think. Fron chapter 4 to chapter8 are about Ireland's history. "You can see the Red Hand on the flags of Northern Ireland."(p.11)    There is a story of Ulster's flag. A man cut off his hand to get a place in Ulster so there is a red hand on Ulster's flag.    Cha

Lost at Sea

They are cold and wet. They are very tired. They cannot call for help.(p.15)    Tyler, Daniela, and their friends take their boat out for the day to swim near an island. Faye's mother calls that a storm is coming but they can't go back. They reached an island and make shelter and fire. Next day, they write SOS with the stones and they can go back to each home. The Moneymaker by Janet Gleason (1999)

   I read “The moneymaker.” As written, this story is about money.    John Law was gambler, murderer and adventure. He tried to spread an idea of paper money in Paris.   Before the paper money invented, people used  gold and silver as way to buy things in Europe. But there were not many gold and silver so countries had to pay back a lot of debt. Law thought that the paper money system is the only way to solute the problem. He had many good feiends but also had many enemies. Good friends helped him to spead his idea, enemies tried to disturb him. He overcame many difficulties and he was very lucky man. He lost all his money once, but he always won gambling and got a huge amount of money. However, when he was dead, the paper money system was still doubtful.    Paper money system is normal to us now, I can't imagine the world that we don't use paper money.    This book was difficult for me because level is 5 and the story is very long so it took long time to finished reading.
