Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

   I read "Far from the Madding Crowd" this week. This is kind of a love story but not simple love story. It's mixed few people's feeling and things never work out as they expect.

   Bathsheba Everdence is a beautiful young woman. Three men say they love her but she marries the wrong one. He is a handsome man and very kind to her at first, but after few years passed, he became cold to her and often go to drink. Actually he has a another wife in another village and the another wife was a Bathsheba's servant.
   Farmer Oak is a strong and well-built man. He loves Bathsheba for a long time and helped her many times. But she doesn't look him like that. He is also a honest man so he don't stop loving her.
One day, Bathsheba's husband had gone somewhere and everyone had thought he was dead. Some people saw he was swimming in the sea and that place is known to dangerous to swim.
   In law people can marry again after seven years whether wife's or husband's death is certain, so a about 40 years old man asked her to marry with him. For her, he is a little bit scare and she feel forced to marry.
   She has to answer the his offer at a party on Christmas day. She hasn't a reason to refuse so she things say "yes." But amazingly, her husband come back! He is alive. But he was killed by the 40years old man and he arrested.
   She feel that she has nothing now, but realize that a man always be her side and helped her. She noticed who is really important person to her.
   She married again with Oak.

   This book was interesting because the story like soap drama.

Ireland by Tim Vicary

    This week I read "Ireland."  As the title this book is written about Ireland' s history, culture and so on.    This book consists of 12 chapters.  I think this book mainly tells about Ireland's history. Chapter1and 2 are about nature of Ireland. "Ireland is an island like a plate"(p.2)    I think this is a good example. I thought that's like a shape of Kumamoto. Kumamoto is also surrounded by mountains so I could imagine easily.   Chapter3 tells about Celtic people. "The  Celts are . . . tall and strong."(p.5)    When I was a junior high school student, my English teacher was a Irish man. Now the reason why he is tall is that he got Celtic people's gene. I think. Fron chapter 4 to chapter8 are about Ireland's history. "You can see the Red Hand on the flags of Northern Ireland."(p.11)    There is a story of Ulster's flag. A man cut off his hand to get a place in Ulster so there is a red hand on Ulster's flag.    Cha

Lost at Sea

They are cold and wet. They are very tired. They cannot call for help.(p.15)    Tyler, Daniela, and their friends take their boat out for the day to swim near an island. Faye's mother calls that a storm is coming but they can't go back. They reached an island and make shelter and fire. Next day, they write SOS with the stones and they can go back to each home. The Moneymaker by Janet Gleason (1999)

   I read “The moneymaker.” As written, this story is about money.    John Law was gambler, murderer and adventure. He tried to spread an idea of paper money in Paris.   Before the paper money invented, people used  gold and silver as way to buy things in Europe. But there were not many gold and silver so countries had to pay back a lot of debt. Law thought that the paper money system is the only way to solute the problem. He had many good feiends but also had many enemies. Good friends helped him to spead his idea, enemies tried to disturb him. He overcame many difficulties and he was very lucky man. He lost all his money once, but he always won gambling and got a huge amount of money. However, when he was dead, the paper money system was still doubtful.    Paper money system is normal to us now, I can't imagine the world that we don't use paper money.    This book was difficult for me because level is 5 and the story is very long so it took long time to finished reading.
